Your New Fall Favorite on the Grill!
Oct 06, 2017
To grill or not to grill? Unless someone else is making dinner, I tend to shy away from preparing dinners for the grill. In my mind it seems like an undertaking, but I am starting to realize that isn't the case. There is something to be said for the experience of grilling. If you are not in full out race mode for the evening, I find that grilling lowers my heart rate. It gives a nice pause to the night. The adults sit outside and relax and the kids unglue from their favorite device to play outside.
Is fall the time to grill? I think so! The mosquitoes are gone and you aren't getting a sunburn. You are sure to love this new fall favorite grilled steak and potato foil pack. This warm and hearty dinner is perfect for a crisp fall day. So start up the grill and enjoy.
Start with a nice sirloin steak. Trim off any excess fat and cut the steak into bite size pieces. Quarter the potatoes. Add the meat and potatoes to a large container, add the spices, shake it up, and it is ready to foil! (see full recipe below)
This recipe feeds about four adults. If you have more kids than adults you have some ready to go lunches for the week. Grilling tip: you will save quite a bit of time if you boil the potatoes prior to putting them on the grill and it will also ensure that you do not overcook the steak.
PICKY EATER ALERT - Often the best fix with picky eaters is ketchup. The steak and potatoes can be dipped in ketchup, just like french fries and a hamburger (this is my sell anyway). Another quick fix - throw a couple of burgers or hotdogs on the grill and cook some french fries in the oven. Add some fruit and vegetables and you have a filling meal full of lots of options.
Another picky eater suggestion: if you have a competitive child you can really sell the vegetables as a way for them to get taller than their siblings. It depends on the child's determination and patience to see the results, but my youngest son continues to shovel in the broccoli in an attempt to surpass his brother in height.
Grilling creates the perfect atmosphere for family time. Take advantage of the time outdoors, even if brief. If you have time, extend the evening and roast some marshmallows over a bonfire. My kids really enjoy my undivided attention. It is amazing what happens when you take the time to really hear your kids and let them talk. I hope you join me in making a point to get outside with your family this fall!
