My Top Three BLTs!
May 18, 2017
With warmer weather comes some of my favorite summer things. In no particular order: the smell of sunscreen, loaded coolers, blueberries, fireflies, lemonade, reading by the pool, the sound of cicadas, and last but not least, BLT Sandwiches!
This last weekend I picked up BLT supplies and I ended up having a BLT for lunch and dinner three days in a row. The simplicity and goodness of a BLT never goes out of style. I, of course, love the classic BLT and that will always be my go to. Now that I am writing this blog, I did a little more research to find what I think are the top three BLT contenders to rival the traditional BLT:
1) Pepper It Up BLT – This does not vary too far from the regular BLT, but does add a bit of a kick. Anyone who truly knows me, knows that I live for spicy foods. I added sweet peppers and jalapeño peppers to my BLT and it added just enough spice to the sandwich to make it a little bit more interesting.
2) What the Waffle BLT- My family loves breakfast and my kids especially love waffles. So take out the bread and add in an egg and a waffle! This puts a creative spin on the BLT that is easy to execute.
3) Tammy’s BLT Dip – Take the BLT on the road! This BLT dip is a great party dish that has all the great tastes of a BLT as a fun side dish. This recipe was provided by another member of our marketing team here at County Market. Thank you Tammy for sharing!
PICKY EATER ALERT – The nice thing about the BLT is that it is also easy to deconstruct into a viable meal for those picky kids with minimal effort on your part. You can butter the toast, salt the tomato pieces, and serve a salad, bacon, and throw in an egg for some added protein.
BONUS BLT - Got Your Goat Cheese BLT – this is not in my top three, but I thought I would throw in a bonus BLT option if you feel like creating a more unique BLT. Add goat cheese! I tried a goat cheese at Obed & Isaac’s Microbrewery and Eatery in Springfield, Illinois this week and it was pretty good. Goat cheese has a pretty strong taste to it, but it is worth a try if you are looking for something a little bit different.
