Cake by the Campfire
Jun 30, 2017
Tis’ the season to go camping! Earlier this week I went to Cub Scout camp. And as luck should have it one of the planned activities was a demonstration on creating your own campfire meal. As the camp counselor and the kids made a campfire dessert I snapped some photos and wrote down the information to share it with you!
This recipe is super simple and a delicious dessert while camping or in your very own backyard (I’m also pretty sure you could recreate this on your stovetop or bake in the oven). Best of all: it only requires three ingredients, none of which need to be refrigerated.
Steps 1 & 2: Line Dutch oven (or pan/skillet) with tin foil. Add a layer of pineapple.
Steps 3 & 4: Evenly distribute the cake mix over the pineapple and pour the Mountain Dew over the cake mix.
Step 5: Place the Dutch oven, with lid, on top of coals or campfire. If placing on coals, add about double the amount of coals on top of the lid.
Step 6: Cook for about 45 minutes or until the cake has a crispy crust.
Step 7: Serve with your favorite campfire dinner and enjoy! Chili dogs is an easy dinner option that goes great with the cake.
Have a wonderful 4th of July and I hope you can take some time out to make this dessert with your kids and/or family and friends this summer and enjoy some outdoor adventures of your own!
