My Mom's Absolute Best Homemade Spaghetti Sauce
Oct 12, 2017
The fall season seems to have officially arrived. Well, until it is 80 degrees again next week. With the cooler temperatures and the holiday’s right around the corner, I often turn to the comfort foods of my childhood. One of my favorite dinners is my mom’s homemade spaghetti sauce. Every now and then I try to replicate it, but it is never quite as good as when my mom makes it. This week though, I think I got pretty close as I followed the recipe to the letter.
I am excited to share this family favorite recipe with you. I hope your family enjoys this just as much as our family does. You know it is a keeper when you daughter requests “grandma’s spaghetti” for her birthday. Here you go:

The absolute key to this recipe is to give the sauce time to simmer. When I have been in a hurry in the past I would skip this step and it just doesn’t taste the same.

This dinner was also a big win with my child that does not “mix” his foods. I asked him to take three bites, which turned into ten, and then a clean plate. This technique has not always worked in the past, but I was surprised to see that this go around it worked great. He would not admit that he liked the spaghetti but was very proud of himself when he told me that he ate it all.
Below is a picture documenting this momentous event. It is blurry, as I did not want to disrupt the progress. Comparable to not disturbing animals in the wild.

What is your favorite comfort food? I hope that this homemade spaghetti sauce can be added to your favorites list. There is something about a homemade sauce simmering on the stove that the canned variety cannot compare. From my family to yours, enjoy!
